A Summer BBQ to Remember

Dear Diary,

It's been a little while since we last talked! This entry will be a LOOONG one.. buckle up xD -Sorry about that. Ever since Memorial Day Weekend, my summer has been super eventful. There were days I really wanted to write about, like when I went to a local carnival with my friends recently. It was such a fun day! That carnival day was honestly so special. I went on a bunch of rides and had the most delicious vanilla ice cream in a sugar cone with rainbow sprinkles. I’m really glad I spent that day with people I care about so much. By the time I got home, I was completely wiped out and couldn’t bring myself to blog about it. Sometimes the blue light from my laptop is just too much for my eyes at night!

Fast forward to this evening: one of my friends was celebrating her 20th birthday with a backyard BBQ! It was the perfect day for it—around 80°F (about 26.7°C)—so most people showed up in bathing suits since she had a water sprinkler going. Pretty much all our friends were there, even ones I’m not super close with anymore, but it still felt nice to be around familiar and kind faces. At one point, I picked up my friend’s guitar and played with my band. We sang “Amber” by 311, “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star, and “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel. It was super cute, and we’re even planning to practice again next weekend!

In the middle of the party, someone heard a faint “meow” in the distance. We followed the sound and found it was coming from a run-down outdoor playpen in the backyard. Under a pile of leaves and a crushed- up box, two tiny blue eyes peeked out from a dark crevice. Everyone huddled around, unsure if they were seeing things. Suggestions were flying— “Don’t crowd the box!” and “Give it some space!” —but no one was brave enough to get close. I decided to approach. I bent down and carefully lifted the box. That’s when I saw a tiny, weak bundle of white and grey fur, staring up at me with tired little eyes. Everyone around me let out a chorus of “Awww!” and I tried not to blush, but I was definitely proud of myself.

We quickly realized we had a dilemma. The kitten was alone— no food, no water, no mother in sight—and trapped under the hot sun. She didn’t even try to move, just sat there with her little paws tucked under her belly, blinking slowly. We found a clean box, a small bowl for water, and even cut up a burger to make a cozy spot for her to rest while we figured out what to do.

We never even confirmed if the kitten was a boy or a girl, but someone came up with the perfect name: Excavator. Since I was the one who got close and gently scooped her up with an old washcloth. The second I picked her up, another wave of “Awwww!” came from the group. She wasn’t angry or aggressive— just scared and exhausted. I set her in the box, and she curled up into a tiny ball in the corner. For hours, phone calls were made to friends, relatives, and even a few worried moms, trying to find someone who could take her in. Sadly, no one could— including me. But I was the only one who stayed by her side. I talked to her, tried to get her to eat and drink, but she just wasn’t up for it. As the sun went down, I started to get anxious. We hadn’t seen her mother again, and Excavator made no effort to escape or explore. She just stared at me quietly, as if waiting for help.

As a last effort, I gathered a few close friends and told them I was going to take the kitten to a local vet to see what we could do. I didn’t want to leave her alone and helpless. But just as we were about to leave the backyard— with the kitten in my arms— someone shouted, “LOOK! THAT’S THE MOM!”

We all turned and saw a sleek black figure slinking through the bushes. It was her! Everyone started motioning for me to put the kitten down. I said a quick goodbye under my breath to my little friend (I’ve decided she’s a girl now, lol) and placed her gently in the grass. She wiggled her way through the tall grass and back to her mom. We all felt warm and fuzzy watching the reunion— it was honestly so wholesome and beautiful!

One of my friends joked that I should go to school to be a vet because I’m basically a cat whisperer now B). After that, we finished celebrating with cake, watched our friend open her Kuromi themed birthday gifts, and even had a piñata shaped like a bottle of ranch dressing?? XD It was such a fun and heartwarming day! I can’t wait to write more about my summer adventures, and I hope you stick around to read them!

See you later, alligator!!

Memorial Day Weekend Down The Shore

Dear Diary,

Just got back from down the shore after four and a half slow, sunny days. It was Memorial Day Weekend and felt like the official start of summer! I stayed at the beach house with my cousins and totally unplugged.. no social media, no updates, just the ocean breeze and way too many laughs.

We got there Friday evening and did a grocery run first thing, which always feels kind of cozy—like setting up a little life for the weekend. The house smelled like old wood and sunscreen, and after unpacking and eating chips on the couch, we all knocked out early with the windows open and the fan humming.

Saturday morning, we walked into town and wandered through the surf shops and boutiques. I got myself the big SunBum monkey, Sonny (I had to—he’s adorable!), and grabbed some new body products that smell like coconut and salt. At a little antique spot, I found little white linen J.Crew shorts and a red and white striped J.Crew boatneck top that made me feel like I should be in love with a sailor! I saw a rack of oversized Ralph Lauren polos and didn’t grab them, and now I can’t stop thinking about how cute they’d look styled oversized on a boat somewhere! Ugh. Next time...

Sunday we hung around the house and binge-watched Jersey Shore for hours—nothing gets you in the summer mood more, honestly. After lunch (burgers, of course), we walked down to the beach. The red flags were up so we couldn’t go in, but we dug big holes, made sandcastles, and splashed around in the shallows. The water looked so blue and the sunset that night was stunning—shades of pink, peach, and orange melting together like a painting. We slept like babies.

Monday had the best weather, It was also Memorial Day! I laid out on the porch with my new tanning oil that smells like oranges and makes you shimmer a little in the sun. We played guitar, giggled, and were just silly all afternoon. Later, I made Hawaiian roll sliders I saw on TikTok (ham + cheese with that buttery glaze) and everyone loved them! Around midnight we decided we were starving again, so we piled in the car and went to 7/11. It was packed with teens and college kids running around— it honestly felt like a summer coming-of-age movie!! Chaotic, but kind of amazing...

On Tuesday, we cleaned the house, finished the last of the food and snacks, and packed up. I didn’t want to leave. I love that little town..The soft-colored houses, the salty air, walking barefoot everywhere, getting BLTs and ice cream in the afternoons.. I already miss it. Can’t wait to go back when June really starts to heat up!!!

MDW at the shore is always a little wild, a little dreamy, and exactly what I needed. :)

The Girls Are Back In Town

Dear Diary,

Went thrifting with my girls today. School ended on the 7th, so now we finally have time to just chill. No more rushing around, just open days and slow moments. :)

I didn’t find a ton at the thrift store, but the things I did pick up were very cute! Wandering around in the rain and being silly with my favorite people—it just felt good. :)

After thrifting, we stopped at McDonald’s (I got a fish o fillet.. DONT JUDGE!!!) lolz and then drove out to this quiet park near one of my friends houses. We dropped the seats in another friends van, spread out some old sheets, and made the coziest little hangout spot. Music playing low, rain tapping the roof… everything felt so soft and calm, like a scene from a movie!

We talked and laughed for hours! It felt like the world slowed down just for us. I didn’t want it to end, but curfew came quicker than we hoped. I love these girls so much. After a bunch of not-great friendships, it’s kind of amazing to feel this safe and seen! I get to just be myself—really, fully me. No shrinking, no second-guessing. Just joy, just ease. Summer’s only just started, and I already know I’ll remember nights like this for a long time! ok well thats all for now,

Guitars & Glitter

Dear Diary,

My website is still under construction, but I didn’t want that to stop me from writing a little update ♡

A few days ago, I went to a show at my college to support my friends! They were amazing! the theme was 80s and 90s music, and they performed medleys from all kinds of artists and bands from that era. It honestly sounded just like the studio versions! I’m so, so proud of them!! (if ur said friends, hiii! u did so well :D)

Earlier that day, I went shopping and ended up getting a bunch of cute skirts and summery clothes~ I even treated myself to a pink Juicy bag!! So much for saving money this week… oopsie hehe..

Anywayyyyz! Tonight I went to another show, and a bunch of my friends and their friends were playing in different bands. I was feeling really tired and kinda out of it because of my awful sleep schedule and the hot weather (it was like 80°!) so I didn’t dance as much as I usually do. Then it started raining, so my friend and I went outside and played in it for a bit while listening to the music from outside. It felt really peaceful

A random guy came up to talk to us — he was a little weird but totally harmless lol. The lightning did scare me a bit though! Later I got to talk to a girl I really look up to who also plays guitar… she’s sooo cool and inspiring!! i hope we become better friends in the future ♡

Overall, it was a lovely day! Took a gr8 shower after and my pjs r nice and clean!! 10/10 day fs! ^w^ I’m hoping to finish my index layout in the next few days, but I wanted to post this before I forget everything (my memory is like... nonexistent lately XD)

Okay, that’s all for now, ttyl diary!! xoxo
